![]() Jorge Nasser is a leading Uruguayan composer and singer who does milonga/rock. The Milonga originated in the Río de la Plata area of Argentina and Uruguay. It was very popular in the 1870s. The Milonga is form of music which preceded the tango. The Milonga was derived from an earlier style of singing known as the payada de contrapunto. The song was set to a lively 2/4 tempo an almost waltz-like feel: 1-2-3(4), 1-2-3(4). Milonga has a syncopated beat, consisting of 8 beats with accents on the 1st, (sometimes also 2nd) 4th, 5th, and 7th beats. By the 1890s musicians were writing in a structured form that was something more than thinly diguised milongas or tangos andaluces, and would later become the fully developed tango. He is of Arab origin. In 1980 he moved to Buenos Aires where he worked as a journalist and illustrator in various media. In 1981 his musical career started, which lead to the recording of his debut album in 1984, a novel blend of pop and rhythm as the typical Uruguayan Candombe and Murga, produced by James Ross. In 1986 his music decanted to rock, making it closer to the Argentine guitarist Pablo Faragó and joint training of Nickel. They were together for 15 years and became the most popular of Uruguay in the mid- 1990s. With Nickel, Nasser recorded over a dozen albums since the debut of 1988. His discography includes landmarks such as "Nickel Symphony," the successful "Gargoland" and collections "Primate", which along with other titles garnered several gold and platinum. Besides being the 1st local band to take the sound unplugged for "Nickel Acoustic." As producer or co-producer of all disks of Nickel, Jorge used that experience to undertake the work of other artists. Between 1995 and 2000 he produced the record Quartet Zitarrosa of Eduardo da Luz and Robert Darvin. In his work as producer, he turned to root Uruguayan projects related to the Candomble or Creole music, genres to which it become increasingly more focused. In 2001 Nasser takes his solo career exploring other avenues with the album "Personal Effects". Following a process that began with his own career, the musician mixed increasing proportions milonga with rock and bluesy streak, also emphasized the participation of artists such as duo Ruben Rada and James Ross. "Fighters in mud" the first single, performed with singer Argentina Mihanovich Sandra was 1 of the songs on further dissemination of that year in the Uruguayan radio. The album garnered rave reviews and won the prize, Iris, as best album of the year. Milongueras versions of Eduardo Mateo and co-authored by Mario Benedetti give an idea of the determination of Jorge in his quest to create their own profile. That search crystallized in 2003 in his new job, "Milonga del querer". The presence of typical Uruguayan rhythms and themes is stronger than ever and its importance is marked from the disk name. An example of this are the versions of 2 songs emblematic "Don José" Ruben Lena and "p'al to be" by Alfredo Zitarrosa that, with 9 songs written by Nasser, shaped 1 of the greatest figures of Uruguayan popular music today. The continued success and their music continues to develop under his personal concept. He continued his recording career editing "For milonga" (2005), "On the milonga in the square" (2007) with a collection of his songs live, and in 2008 reaches "Duets" a work with important guests such as Leo Gieco, Teresa Parodi, Sandra Mihanovich, Ruben Rada, Emiliano Brancciari, Jaime Ross.
