Malena Muyala

Malena Muyala is a female singer and songwriter from Uruguay.She does tango and milonga. Malena is 1 of the main female voices in Uruguay.

Tango is a style of ballroom dance music in 2/4 or 4/4 time.It is traditionally played by a sextet, which includes 2 violins, piano, double bass, and 2 bandoneons. Earlier forms of this ensemble sometimes included flute, clarinet and guitar. Tango may be purely instrumental or may include a vocalist. It originated among European immigrant populations of Argentina and Uruguay from the mid 19th century. The "Golden Age" of tango music and dance was from 1935 to 1952.

Born in San Jose (1971-03-23) where she spent her childhood and part of her youth. The family, especially her grandmother, always fostered a love for music and theater.At 11 she entered the Macci¢ Theatre of San Jose where under the leadership ofDirector Eduardo Malet receives her first drama class and performs the works"our people" and "Let's go." During her teens she was part of different bands and ran a murga built entirely by women in the context of Estudiantinas.

In 1988 she moved to Montevideo and enters the BCG Antimurga where, under the direction of Jorge Esmoris, performs the works "among madmen and lunatics,""Chips and baked potatoes" and "Sex, chocolate and BCG."

In 1991 she presented to the First National Contest of Tango conducted inUruguay and won first prize among 350 participants from across the country.She formed her band and begins to appear in different national settings.

In 1994 she was invited by singer, Estela Magnone, to be the lead voice of the group consisting of Smurf Silk Lombardo, Shyra Panzardo, Cinthia Gallo and Estela Magnone.

In 1997 she presented to the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay, the project "Malena, both tango and both love" that is selected from 70 proposals for a national tour.

In 1998 she recorded her first CD, kicking off her recording career.

In 2000 she recorded her second album, "Puro Verso".

In 2007 she recorded her third album "Traveling" which quickly got her the distinction of Gold Record.

In 2008 she was invited by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montevideo to make a show called Malena Muyala + Philharmonic on the steps of the Hotel del Prado.Recorded her 4th album in this case and its 1st DVD Live at the TeatroSolis in Montevideo. It also quickly receive the distinction of Gold andPlatinum DVD and Best Album award Graffiti Tango.

In 2009 she received the Distinguished Citizen of Distinction awarded by the BoardMontevideo department and Mr. Mayor Ricardo Erhlich.

In 2010 she sang on the Esplanade of Parliament in the change of parliamentary authorities, was responsible for reopen after its renovation, the Teatro Maccio her hometown, is invited by the Argentine government to sing at the celebrations for the Bicentennial that country, sings with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montevideo in the Assumption of command of the Mayor of Montevideo, AnaOlivera and is presented in the Winter Festival in the city of Petropolis in Brazil.

She recorded with the football team of the country song for the CelesteFoundation, which promotes the sport in Uruguay.

She travelled to Italy invited by Hector Ulises Passarella, bandoneonist, where she toured a month in different cities and scenarios.

In 2011 she began the tour "Pebeta in my neighborhood" through the neighbourhoods ofMontevideo tango treasured collection of stories by people who form part of a book and documentary of this music identifying Uruguay.

In May, she made presentations in Havana as part of the First Conference ofUruguayan culture in Cuba.
