Other uses for liquid hand soap
- Cleans:
- floors, surfaces, walls, etc.
- disinfect and remove bad smells from toilets: put 2 tablespoon of liquid soap into the septic tank
- makeup brushes: it breaks down the oils and pigments without being as harsh on the bristles as some specialized cleaners
- jewellery: soak gold and silver in a bowl of warm water with a few drops of hand soap. Use a soft toothbrush to scrub away grime
- degreasing tools, like pliers:
- stains from fabrics
- Hand washes delicates like silk, wool
- Not recommended for crockery and dishes - Lubricates:
squeaky hinges, stuck zippers, tight finger rings - Check for gas leaks in a gas line or a tire: mix soap and water and brush it over the area. If it blows bubbles, you have found the leak.
- Insecticide for plants: mix a tablespoon of soap into a liter of water. Spray it onto the leaves. It will help deter aphids and spider mites
- Foaming soap dispensers are essentially just watering down regular soap through a special pump. You can save a money by making your own refill: Fill an empty foaming soap bottle 1/4 of the way with liquid hand soap. Fill the rest with warm water (leave a little room at the top for the pump). Gently tilt the bottle back and forth to mix. Do not shake it, it will createe too many bubbles inside the bottle and clog the mechanism.
- Medical:
Standard water-filled ice packs are hard and uncomfortable. Because liquid soap has a lower freezing point than water, it stays in a "slushy" state when frozen: pour liquid soap into a heavy-duty Ziploc bag (fill it about halfway). Squeeze out as much air as possible and seal it. Double-bag it to prevent leaks. Keep it in the freezer. It will remain flexible, allowing it to mold perfectly around a knee, elbow, or wrist. - Anti-fog mirrors, eyeglasses and camera lenses: liquid soap creates a thin film that prevents water vapor from clinging to the glass. Apply a small drop of clear liquid soap to a dry microfiber cloth. Rub it onto the glass until it is buffed clear
- Removes stickers and price tags: mix equal parts liquid soap and baking soda to create a thick paste. Slather the paste onto the stubborn adhesive, let it sit for 15 minutes and wipe it away. The soap breaks down the glue while the baking soda provides a gentle abrasive
- Create "strong" bubbles: mix 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of liquid hand soap and 1 tablespoon of corn syrup or glycerin. The syrup/glycerin thickens the skin of the bubble, making them last much longer before popping and allowing you to blow much larger ones.
